Harmanpreet Kaur's participation in BBL will benefit India, says Mithali Raj

Mumbai, June 26 : Harmanpreet Kaur's selection for this year's Big Bash League (BBL) in Australia is a welcome move, according to Mithali Raj, the captain of the Indian women's team.

 

The 27-year-old Harman Kaur will be the first Indian woman to play in BBL (for Sydney Thunder team) in December this year. .

 

Speaking exclusively over her mobile, Mithali Raj said, "Harman is a T20 player with her attacking strokes and a part time bowler. She can make the difference in this format of the game. It will give her a lot of confidence".

 

"It is a wonderful thing for her as an individual player to be part of the league. She, as a player, will improve and I am also sure we will get to see many more players from Indian contingent in coming years to be part of this league".

 

The captain has no regrets on not being considered for the BBL. "I was not approached. I have absolutely no regrets because it purely depends on ones current form and the form keeps changing".

 

It could not be confirmed whether India's another experienced player Jhulan Goswami was approached but 23-year-old all-rounder Veda Krishnamurthy was in contention for the selection.

 

"It was good to have Harmanpreet Kaur play BBL. She is my friend and I am happy for her. Her experience will benefit the Indian cricket", Veda Krishnamurty, speaking exclusively from Chennai added.

 

Harmanpreet Kaur, now working for Railways in Mumbai was not available for comments but she is keeping herself fit by practicing at Pune with Kavita Patil.
